First Nigeria online university announced. No JAMB needed to gain Admission
There is good news for admission seekers in Nigeria as the nation's first online university has announced admission without JAMB The Chancellor of Miva University, Sim Shagaya, said only WAEC/NECO result is needed to gain admission into the university Shagaya also disclosed that a degree programme runs for 2.5 years unlike the traditional 4 years in conventional institution.
FCT, Abuja - Miva University, Nigeria’s first online university has announced admission into its degree programmes. The Chancellor of the university, Sim Shagaya, said the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is not required to gain admission into the university.
Bachelor's degree in 2.5 years without JAMB Shagaya said a degree programme can be completed in 2.5 years because MIVA University operates a trimester system (three terms in a year).
Shagaya have earlier disclosed the price for different courses in the university. He made this known via his Twitter X handle.

In another tweet, he disclosed this via his X handle (formerly known as Twitter) @SimShagaya, on Wednesday, September 20. He added that strikes or industrial/union action have no place in the university and the graduation date is sure from the commencement date. NUC releases list of approved Open Universities in Nigeria Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the acting executive secretary of the National Universities Commission(NUC), Chris J Maiyaki, has disclosed the number of open universities that have been approved to operate in Nigeria.

Maiyaki said out of the 260 approved universities in Nigeria, five are open universities. He stated this during the visit of the President and Principal of King’s College London, Proffer Shitij Kapur. List of new courses NUC approved for Nigerian universities The National Universities Commission (NUC) inaugurated a committee in 2021 to create a new core curriculum and minimum academic standards for universities. The committee constituted experts from various disciplines in Nigerian universities. Professor Abubakar Rasheed, the executive secretary of the NUC, disclosed that the new core curriculum and minimum academic standards came into existence after a thorough review of the benchmark minimum academic standards that Nigerian universities are using.
